| ibrar thanks for new suggestion. yes we can use plastic pots for bonsai. think if you cant find original bonsai pots, nor local made clay pots, then what will you do? answer is simple use plastic pots.they are good cheap and unbreakable. you can use them for bonsai training when you find a suitable pot you can use the original one. if you are student i will suggest you to use them save some bucks for your fun. but dont forget to make some holes in the bottom of the pot for proper drainage. | |

| dear members. i am agreed with your suggestions partially not as whole. bonsai is an art and its can be very to different areas and regions, but dont try to neglect its basic requirements and techniques.you have to use the pots as other artist do. but other side if you dont find the pots then you can use alternates.as we are using alternates materials to soil. think you cant display your bonsai in exhibition in plastic pot. but you can use it as training pot. good luck | |

| You can also use concrete made pots. Search the net and you will find tons of info on how you can use concrete slabs and pots. They look artistic and look better than plastic. Though you can still use plastic ones if you are currently training your bonsai. By the way you can use shallow trays that are used under house plants pots to stop water from draining onto the floor. They can be bought from any nursery. They also make good bonsai pots but only for some specifics bonsai styles only. | |

| As noted, many types of containers can be used especially for bonsai that are still in training. Here is a picture of a homemade wooden box that has already seen several years of use and currently has a new subject in it. Notice the slats that act as feet and raise the pot from whatever surface it is on. The spacing allows excellent drainage. All that is required is suitable lumber and some sort of screening. Also don't overlook the possibility that your younger trees can spend time in the ground while they are under development. The desire to have a bonsai in an artistic pot, while understandable, can actually slow the progress of your trees. It is not uncommon to spend years working on a tree before it is placed in a bonsai pot. Norm | |

| Hi Have not been able to locate any bonsai pots, so far. I have used some ceramic pots (soup bowls) instead. Had to drill drainnage holes in them (a hard job). | |

| bowls (PIYALA) are good option i also have used them. since we dont have bonsai nurseries and stores here in Pakistan..it is much difficult to find a pot or other material for bonsai..if you buy it from online it cost too much. so there should not be hesitation to use local pots for bonsai | |
