how to make bonsai soil?

hi all members,
i hope you will be enjoying summers and some mangoes with friends.
i want to share with you my experience about bonsai soil.

please remember four rules

1-nutrition and oxygen for tree
2-good drainage of water.
3-can retain moisture and fertilizers.
4-can hold and grip tree.

now what materials you can use for these functions.

for nutrition and oxygen for plant
1-river sand with thick grains
2-a little quantity of silt
3-compost
4-moss

good drainage of water.
1-gravel
2-thick size river sand
3-lava rock
4-pebbles
5-pumice
6-tree bark
7-dead woods
for drainage size of material is subject to,
big size:fast drainage
small size:slow drainage

can retain moisture and fertilizers

1-lava rock
2-tree bark
3-dead woods
4-coconut husk

for hold and grip of tree

1-gravel
2-pebbles
3-sand
4-lava rocks


you use these materials to make your bonsai.
please remember you can use only one material for one purpose,but you can also multi.
these materials also can do other duty as gravel will help in good drainage and also grip and hold tree.
tree bark will help in drainage and to retain moisture and fertilizers.
for the climate of Pakistan i will choose the ratio as below:

1-50 % drainage material
2-50 % moisture material



you can also use for specific tree or climate as 40/60 or 70/30.
its your choice and you will learn after a time for making soil.
but dont wait just put your hands in dirt and start a bonsai.

for which plant do you want to use this mixture?
you need to know plant's water need,nutrition and drainage criteria then one can suggest the right ratio.

plants are FICUS and junipar

i don't know how to paste pics here pakbonsai plz u paste my baby jade bonsai pic here which u consider the better. i m using alluvial soil or canal sand perhaps it is called.i don't know about compost before i join this site.its 10 years old i re pot it last year first time when i learn from this site.

Hi Where do u buy all this material and please suggest me their rates too. I bought peat moss and it costed me 2000bucks and i got a strong feeling that the guy i bought from, was not selling the peat moss he was robbing me. It will be a pleasure to know your source and prices. i m into a marketing field i use to visit isb, jehlum, sahiwal, peshawer, pattoki, hattar and gadoon since i live in lahore so i suppose i just need to know the source or sources and visiting them should not be a problem for me. One other thing did u ever buy lahore compost if yes plz tell me his rates too.

i only buy coconut husk from Lahore other materials are available every where.i usually buy coconut husk from Sunny view club road near Governor house Lahore.,some time you get the materials free otherwise can be bought from construction material sellers.
