what is compost

Compost is a soil conditioner, mulch and fertilizer all wrapped into one package.
it is must have ,materials for bonsai soil.Without the compost bonsai soil is not complete.as in our are Pakistan,compost do well job for bonsai to have moisture fertilizers nutrition and oxygen for roots.


materials used for compost

remember a simple rule to make compost.

2 parts of browns + one part of greens

what are the green ?

green leaves
fruits
grass clippings
herbs
vegetables
kitchen wastage

what are the browns?

brown leaves
dry leaves
newspaper
paper board
saw shred( wooden)
dead woods
breads
.

remember you can use every green or brown waste of your home or kitchen as
vegetable waste
boiled rice
breads
fruits
egg shells crushed
buns
extra food
garbage
and every thing that you have as waste in your kitchen





but dont use
steel
plastic
metals
meets
pesticides
oils
diseased plants

how to start the compost

1-first off all take a bin or any other container for composting.
plastic or metal bin or pot can be used.you can also use a garden container or pitcher pot(matka)

2-put and mix your compost materials 2 parts of brown + 1 part of greens in the bin or pitcher
3-pure some water in it to give it moisture
4-put some garden soil or ready compost to start the composting
5-cover it with some hard board or plastic cover
6-keep it moist if it dries out compost will take a more time to complete.
7-turn the compost weakly if you can easily.

things to remember
keep it moist
dont let it dry out
add greens and brown to maintain the ratio


when it will complete
it will be take about two months if did it right.
it will be complete when you cant identify the materials you used for it.
it will be complete if it did not heat up
it will smell earthly

it will be dark brown

now i guess it, its called "patoon ki khaad" by nursery men.they use it for seeds of seasonal flowering plants.
how much compost we need to mix in soil?

there are no alternatives for this,you have to wait or go to some nursery you can have compost from them,as sajid have mentioned it is called "patoon ki khad" ask nursery men to give you some.
and remember one rule,
no hurry in bonsai its time consuming hobby you have to wait years to have a good piece,so my advice will be to start making compost ,meanwhile get it from somewhere to use,

i have started my first compost under supervision of Pak bonsai. lets see what happen.

just keep in mind the ratio
2 parts brown+1 part green. air+moisture
and dont be in hurry it will take at least two months or more if not done proper

Compost is now also available at shops which sell gardening supplies. I bought few packets this year to plant my bonsai.
