| salman welcome to pak Bonsai. i will not suggest you to use rice husk. the best thing is to use compost/leaf mould as ratio in bonsai soil. but if you are unable to have compost you can use coconut husk. but never use rice husk. reason: if you will use rice husk it will start to decompost after some time and during the process of decomposting it will also compost your plants roots, and result will be the death of a tree, | |

| Majeed bhai i want to ask you that are alluvium and silt one and the same thing? secondly I don't used any compost and other things in my bonsai but its still alive and its almost 10 years old. After reading here about compost i made it for the first time and add it in my plants. | |

| alluvium is different than silt, alluvium is mixture where as silt is its part.i hope you understand it better now. to keep plants live for years and years you need to add compost or leaf mold in soil.in compost roots thrive more than ordinary garden soil.bonsai soil should have good drainage and ratio of oxygen in it,which ordinary soil lakes, where as bonsai soil have it. | |

plants is ficus junipur.silt ki jagha kya istamaal karon. junipers are difficult to survive in our areas, they can do good in northern areas, so dont have much experience about them. for ficus please use 40-40-20 compost ,silt and gravel.

| Ready made bonsai soil is not available in Pakistan. I am using a mixture of compost and clay in 50:50 ratio and add pieces of tree bark to have better drainage. It is working well. | |

| Guys,
have you tried, sifted crushed brick or sifted silica based construction sharp sand and just a home made compost ?
I go to the brick factory and sift from the broken brick pile.
Sharp sand is sold on our side by the cubic metre, very cheap.
I make my own compost.
Cocopeat is from Sri Lanka is cheap on our side.
It is generally unwise to use clay. As your trees age and need to be repotted every 3 to 5 years, you will find the clay forcing you to repot, yearly or every 6 months. Are the leaves yellowing? Until. Khaimraj
