salam,

I am really happy to find i place finally where i can ask for help as i want to create my own masterpiece bonsai. cheers i really appreciate your effort to create this forum and provide bonsai lovers in Pakistan with knowledge and help they are in real need of as all the information on net or in books doesn't suit our climate conditions.

now i come to the point i have bought a ficus thai / microcarpa with i good thick trunk as my primer. i want to use clip and grow method to turn it into a bonsai. Can you please tell me if it is the right time to prune its excessive trunk, branches and roots. if not then when will be the time. Actually i want to follow the route shown in your basic technique section (via photographs) as the plant i have bought is almost in same conditions i.e., thick trunk and branches at a good distance. i want to design a informal upright position. do u think it will suit the ficus plant.

Mrs. Hasan

Mrs hasan welcome to PakBonsai.
thanks for your appreciations and best wishes. glad to know your interest in bonsai... female are more in Bonsai these days in pakistan, thats a good sign.
Ficus are very good for Bonsai as they have small leave size, better trunk and they are "hard to die" plants.
plant and method you have mentioned for Bonsai is right, you can use it.
but its not best time to cut or prune. for major cuts you should wait for Jan... just before starting of spring, and when plants start to bud.
