yes its looks like juniper......
this is group style...and not that much difficult which you are thinking.
when you started to make bonsai...it will be easy to make this group Style.
by the way Junipers are difficult to survive here in Pakistan...may be in northern areas they can do well.
i have tried this group style with Persian Lilac (Dharaik) but some stray cats put my all work out of pot.....and the plants died.

I agree with you that Spruce, Junipers and Pines would definitely do well in cooler climates.
But you too are based in north (Gujranwala), and I'm just curious to know: what is the winter average temperature you get in your location?

For members living in southern/hotter regions can try creating group planting / forest with Casuarina equisetifolia, which is also commonly known as Australian pine.

and in winter average temp is 5-10 C.... last year it dropped to - zero.

Oh, I see..... but I looked up the Oxford Atlas and Gujranwala is in north of Lahore, and quite near Kashmir.
But with the temperatures you have indicated, you will have great success with Ficus and other tropical species.

Thanks for the info but it is not Saroo or Fir because Saroo/Fir is growing very well in Karachi.
Second thing is how can I know that the new roots are developed and its time to cut the trunk of the original tree?
