Bangkok Bougainvillea from Shaukat Islam

Salam to all,
here is the Bangkok Bougainvillea from Shaukat Islam,
details are as under:
age: 5 years as bonsai(was started from cutting)
Latin name: Gmelina villosa
Common name: Bangkok Bougainvillea (although it is not a bougainvillea)
Native to: south east Asia including Bangladesh
Height: about 9 inches high
Pot: locally made by a ceramic artist

"This species is very hardy, and is so versatile that you can try various styles. It grows very quickly, which is a plus point, so you can develop fairly good branches and foliage in a short time. I am not quite sure if it is available in Pakistan but you can surely look for it in nurseries."

Dear pak bonsai,

Thanks for posting the pics of my bonsai.
For the convenience of all members, I would like to add some more details on this species.

- It is a hardy climber, grows very fast.
- On casual viewing, it will give the appearance very much like a bougainvillea climber, but on close observation, it would reveal that leaves are quite different.
- The flowers, which appear in summer, are terminal, yellow in color and in drooping long bracts facing downwards.

I would strongly recommend this species to all members, as it is quite tough, can be grown in all styles, and grows very fast.
If it would be of any help, I could post close up pics of branch cuttings for easy identification by members.

Yes, I'm afraid I won't be able to tell you the local name. But I will post some close-up pics of the leaves and flowers, so that you can check and see if it is available in Karachi nurseries.
